7970 has more VRAM and runs at 384 bit vs the 680's 256 bit

You don't need 16GB of RAM, 8GB is enough and 12GB is the highest you should go. You're not going to use more than 6GB under even the most heaviest tasks, unless you're doing 3D modeling.

I've included a 64GB SSD just for the OS

and that 1080p monitor you said. Single monitor gaming is waaaaay more fun than dual monitors (mostly because of that ugly bezel that comes in the way)

Other monitor for vid editing while playing something or while multi -tasking. Also, I'm still thinking of the GTX 680, after what happened to my 6770.

Trust me it won't happen. That's usually manufacturing defect when things don't get done right and it happens to every card, even Nvidia.

I'll take a closer look into the 7970 later on then I guess. I'm still thinking a dual monitor display would be nice.  Didn't the GTX 680 have 4 gigs of vram?

I know the XFX is good, but for $20 more expensive, why not this one?

There's nothing better about that one. Both have dual fans, both run at the same clock (except yours has that OC feature) and yeah that's about it.

The XFX I suggested has DisplayPort output as well compared to the Sapphire's dual HDMI and dual DVI.

nig you don't need an i7 most programs don't make use of the hyperthreading anyway
especially not the games
get a higher clocked i5 with an unlocked multiplier and you'll be set

Because an i7 is just an i5 with HT, and that doesn't make a difference when gaming.
