The 3570k has 4 threads. 1 virtual core per every physical core. There is no reason why an AMD cpu should outperform an intel cpu. For gaming, budget or not, intel wins hands down. He said he wants simple animation and modeling, and that wouldn't be a concern on a P4. Steamroller is going to be the same dissapointment the bulldozer was. Do you see everyone using bulldozers because of 8 cores? No. They spent years convincing that clock speed matters omg they have more speed then they move on to cores. WE HAVE 16 CORES OMG. No. Go with intel for now. You won't be dissapointed. Would you rather pay 20 dollars less for something that will dissapoint you much sooner? You won't get the performance you expected. An i5 is all you will need for gaming for the next few years.

I don't think this was needed. We all pretty much came to the conclusion that Intel is indeed faster but the next AMD's should blow it away if Intel continues on the path they have been on for the past 2 years or so.

Besides the only thing I like about AMD is the price:performance value. I don't care if it has 8 cores yet performs like a quad core. In the end it's cheap.

and also it doesn't matter these days since most recent games rely heavily on GPU than CPU.

-sigh-

How about, you guys WORK TOGETHER, to create the build, instead of arguing?

I'd go with Uni's if you like Intel and more graphics performance and are willing to spare a few things like the SSD, optical drive, and extra RAM.

I'd go with Mat852 and my own build if you want a balanced build that comes right in your budget and you get things like a boot SSD an optical drive (If you have games on disc, or watch movies via DVD)

It's your choice. You said medium gaming so I gave you something for that. You also said animating and modeling and that's why I threw in 12GB of RAM. Also the SSD for good overall performance, booting in seconds, launching applications, and in-application speed will increase. You'll also end up with more storage and a dedicated drive for just storing files and not having the OS take space on the HDD.

more rendering power:

mine + ikuto

more gaming power + rendering:

mine + ikuto + uni (cut price to fit a SSD)

uni
