Demo of the iPad Control Scheme

ROBLOX Mobile App Controls - Alpha Version

Quick and dirty demo of the current iPad control scheme, along with some rambling thoughts for what is going to work well and what isn't.

This will give those of your without an iPad or iOS device some idea of what you've working with. We're trying to total nail controls for the IPAD. IPHONE/IPOD is level 2 - everything is harder with the smaller screen. For smaller devices, simple games are likely to work best.

Ultimately we're going to have a different games page for games that people on mobile devices are playing. We expect this page to be populated with games that have adapted their control schemes to be compatible with mobile devices. There will probably be an API that will allow you to find out what kind of system your game is running on, so dual-mode games should be possible.

A transparent jump button would be good.

Anyways; it looks pretty good and real close to the PC version (well not the controls of course) can't wait for the Android version, that way I can see how well an overclocked 1.5GHz Tegra 2 processor performs.

Looks fabulous!

I tried it out on both my iPod and iPad, but unfortunately, the game launcher does not work.

Others are experiencing the same problem, you can read them here:

What is it? iPod, iPad, iPhone?

Is it jailbroken?

That looks really nice. I am thinking about making tools for each separate action you can perform OR making on screen buttons. I'll have to find a nice place for the buttons so that they don't interfere with moving, looking, and your visual of the game. I only have an iPod 4th Generation but I could probably borrow my "friend"'s iPad. My school went paperless to save money, they adopted iPads instead. That's really silly but I'm sure I could borrow one :P

I just played my Paintball on my iPod and it was really hard to play. The game was flipped to landscape but the user interface wasn't. What I mean by that is if I am holding the iPod upright the controls are oriented properly. The menu button is in the upper left, joystick is in the lower left, swiping left moves your camera left, etc. That's only a problem because the game itself is flipped to landscape so if I'm holding the iPod upright everything is sideways. I also couldn't select a tool... maybe the joystick was in the way? I'm just posting my observations but I know you are focused on the iPad right now so it's not a problem.

Everything gets harder on the smaller screen.

I'm not sure that we're going to support portrait orientation.

Virtual joystick does get in the way sometimes.

Will there be anyway to disable the virtual joystick or jump button so they don't get in the way?

(The jump button is sort of useless on my Mini Pirate Battle.)
