I have been getting pretty good with VB and I am curious what language I should attempt to learn next? Any suggestions?

Python is a very nice, flexible interpreted language which I highly recommend (much, much better than any form of BASIC, including VB, that I can think of). If you want to go straight into native programming, definitely learn C++. And although it has its disadvantages, don't forget about Java.
