I'm on a less-than-favorable computer at the moment, and I need to make studio usable.  ROBLOX runs fine at a quality setting of 5 or less on the slider.  Is there a way to apply this in-studio?

I tried that, the materials still appear on high quality and the render-distance doesn't change.

OP would probably want these settings, and settings affecting the whole game probably wouldn't matter anyway since that's what he wants.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about in my last post.  Studio tends to lock things on high-quality no matter what your settings are.
