Qosmio's are waaaaay better. My opinion.
Then find one with a quad and GT 650 or better for under $950
They have waaaaay better build quality to go for that cheap.

You're getting GTX 670M for 50 dollars more and a nice i7.
This is the base model.
But no HD screen, and that I what you're going to use the most out of everything.
That's an upgrade.
Like I said, base model and they've got way more features to start with.
The guy doesn't need a hardcore laptop anyways, the Dell or the Qosmio.
Looking for a laptop like this
Price range up to 500
Want to watch at least 720p videos without anything being slow
Not going to be used for gaming ( already have a gaming desktop )

All are great laptops and you'll get the most battery life out of the Dell and ASUS and is estimated around 5 hours and 30 minutes according to various reviews.
The Dell also has some nice features like Bluetooth 4.0, Skullcandy speakers, 3 USB 3.0 ports (pretty good at this price), and 6 gigs of DDR3-1600 RAM, and a card reader that supports lots of different card types. My second most recommended one.
The Lenovo has a battery life estimated at up to 5 hours. It has better graphics than the Dell, a bit less features though compared to it, but it's also 50 dollars cheaper. You've got one USB 3.0 and two 2 USB 2.0, 4GB DDR3-1600 RAM, and a simple SD card reader. Probably my least recommended of the three, but also the cheapest.
The ASUS gives you an estimated 5 hours and 30 minutes of battery life (thanks to its larger battery) and packs a quad core and good graphics, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0, a card reader, the largest screen of the three, and probably the most balanced of the three. My most recommended one.
The Dell and Lenovo's are thin laptops, can't say the same about the ASUS however. Comes down to personal choice at this point.
